A "Thank You" letter from Fred & Phos....

For some reason, the oh-so-user-friendly Facebook will not let me link to a perfectly safe, self-created PDF on their site, so that's why you've found yourselves directed to the Blogspot page.

From here you may link through to the document on my Google Drive space, or Download the PDF directly from my Comcast server space for offline viewing.

Green Hill Sportsman's Club Location

The Green Hill Sportsman's Club may be a little out in the boonies, but it's really pretty easy to get to.

This should help those who are unfamiliar with the location.

Where to Purchase Tickets

Keep checking back if you don't see a place listed that is convenient for you. We'll be updating this list as we bring more vendors on board.

We're scrambling as fast as we can to get tickets into the hands of vendors, and as you might imagine this takes time, gasoline, and not a small amount of salesmanship. In case you can't get to one of our vendors, tickets will be available at the gate on the day of the event.

Let the Sales begin...

I'd like to take the opportunity to publicly thank my newish pal @Cristina Pennino for being THE VERY FIRST person to purchase a pair of tickets to the Party in the Woods fundraiser, and for letting me hang a poster right by the cash register @ Austin Ray Bar & Grill (The old Midway Bar) on Columbia Avenue, Lancaster. She's been a terrific cheerleader since I first mentioned our early planning stages, and her encouragement has been really uplifting. Thanks so much, Crissy!!

First Friday Promo in Lancaster

Lancaster City's "First Friday" events always pack the shops, streets, and sidewalks, and are a great way to explore what our fair town has to offer. This coming First Friday, on October 4th, the Party in the Woods crew will be set up in front of:
Flowers by Paulette
258 N. Queen Street.
717-295-5411

That's on the southwest corner of Queen & Walnut streets, just across Walnut from Lebzelter's Tire Service.

We'll have tickets for sale there and will be answering any questions you may have about the Party in the Woods event. We might even have some special pop-up surprises, in the way of free food and tiny busker music. The food is the easy part...looks like I may have to wrangle one MORE player to help with the cause!

Tickets Are Coming Soon!

As of this post time, I'm still waiting for the email from H&H Group (which many Lancastrians might have known previously as the Sir Speedy franchise on North Prince Street) telling us the tickets are finished and ready to be picked up.
Again, I want to give my deeply grateful thanks to them for sponsoring our posters and the tickets, and for doing such a stupendous job printing them. Highly recommended for any print or power marketing needs you may have. Ask for Dee Spitler...she's been a treasure to work with.

OK, I didn't mean for that to come out like an advert, but I'm over the moon pleased with them right now.

Coming by yourself? You'll get one of these.
Coming as a couple? You'll get two.

When we get the finished tickets, we'll be distributing them ASAP!!! to a select number of businesses who we have chosen because they believe in what we're doing. And we'll be posting and updating the list of places where you can get them, here, and on our Facebook page.

I'd like to make tickets available for purchase in every Turkey Hill convenience store, every Rutter's, every Sheetz, every bar, tavern & restaurant, every little art gallery, music store and Mom & Pop shop throughout the county. But, the reality is we're a small team, and no matter how energetic we've been about this whole extravaganza, we simply can't manage to flood the entire county with posters and tickets. But we'll be getting them out there, as soon as we can.

Music? All Day!? Yep!

We love local businesses and local talent, and try to support them in the best ways we can. With that in mind we've selected a roster of musicians to play at The Party in the Woods who should be deserving of wider acclaim. You may not know them yet. We hope you won't forget them after they've raised their musical voices.

❖ The Empty Set-----2:00 - 2:45pm
I asked Lancaster drummer Steffy Schulz to describe what they do, and he looked worried that I might not understand how they could marry two somewhat disparate influences. Imagine Canadian stalwart prog rockers Rush and the post-hardcore and eclectic backstory of Coheed & Cambria tossed in a giant commercial dough mixer, and that comes within a good country mile of a description. Or an explanation. Or an excuse. But not quite. You'll just have to hear it for yourselves. It already sounds good to me.

❖ Shea Quinn & Friends-----3:00 - 3:45pm

I've known Shea since we were both about 18 or 19 years old and I'd go anywhere almost every weekend his old Camp Hill PA—based band The Pikers played, back in the late—'70s to early—'80s. I've been a fan of his enormous talent for 33+ years, and he kicked his visibility up a bunch of notches when he joined up on bass with Lancaster favorites The Sharks. Most local fans know of The Sharks win on MTV's basement tapes, too. For the past many years Shea's been playing countless gigs with his band The Luv Gods, as well as smaller solo, duo and trio shows; that's not even to mention the crazy packed houses whenever The Sharks get together for a reunion show. Regardless of which configuration you see him in, Shea's got performing all the way down into the marrow of his bones, and is always a good time. Who are the "…& Friends" he'll be bringing along to jam at our fundraiser?
That will surely be the surprise of the day. But I guarantee it'll be stone solid blast.

❖ Pistoltuckey Sweets-----4:00 - 4:45pm
From their Facebook page:
“The Pistoltuckey Sweets is a musical project that came together in May of 2013 with the collaboration of Cindy Lynn Mullins, Erin Ryan, Elizabeth Camplese-Baublitz, and Toni Annette Carran. A wholesome blend of acoustic guitars, bass, mandolin, and djembe, the Sweets bring a unique sound to a wide variety of surprising covers and original music. With influences of Neil Young, Stevie Nicks, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and Dave Matthews, their style transcends many genres and is, in essence, timeless.”

❖ Jason Gray-----5:00 - 5:45pm

A recent discovery for me, I found Jason Gray pretty much slaying the rest of the performers at an open mic night, early September 2013, at the Burning Bridge Tavern in Wrightsville. This deft acoustic guitar player and well-practiced singer songwriter sure ain't no amateur, and he had me by the short hairs by the end of his first song. As soon as he was done with his short 3-song set of original tunes I put my elevator pitch into high gear.
I had to have him play at the Party in the Woods. A quick walk outside to the tavern's front porch and he was sold. This guy needs more, and better, bigger venues. He's got a band thing going too...he and I both wish he could have done a double set—solo and full band—but schedules just couldn't allow it. But let me tell ya...the guy rocks, and writes good material.

❖ Matt & Carol Frigm|Sweetlife-----6:00 - 6:45pm
This married duo were hosting and playing the open mic night at the Burning Bridge where I first heard Jason Gray. I'd seen the name around for awhile, but had only first heard them just a couple days before that at The Symposium. Smooth vocal harmonies and Matt's acoustic guitar blend so well in their self-penned music, it's abundantly clear that they play from their hearts, and write songs taken straight from their adventures and tribulations as a long—married couple who still find inspiration in each other, and in the sublime beauty of the life that surrounds all of us.

❖ After 30-----7:00 - 7:45pm
From AC/DC to ZZ Top, with stops along the way to pick up Tom Petty, Tommy Tutone, Doors, Thoroughgood, The Who, Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers, these guys dish out some of the best popular rock this side of the Susquehanna. The band itself is a relatively recent assembly, but the players have all been working hard at it for years. Just as the sun's going down, After 30 will be cranking up the electricity.

❖ The Relix-----8:00 - 10:00pm
OK, I have to admit it. The two guitar players here are looong time friends of mine, from growing up in Mechanicsburg. Kirk Ramsey lived 3 doors down the street from me and has been sort of my surrogate little brother since about 1974. Kirk was the youngest of 3 brothers who seemed to just come naturally to musical talent. He started out on bass years ago, to support his brothers—Scott on guitar and Robert on drums—but has since moved over to primarily guitar playing. Blain Williams has been great pals with Kirk since they both attended Cumberland Valley High School. Blain came to guitar a little late, but caught on really quick He's a captivating lead player and front man, and one of the friendliest guys you'd ever want to meet. Grounding The Relix' fiery grooves are Kevin Payne on drums and Paul Conti on bass.
So what are you in for when these guys plug in and turn it up?
How about a modern, powerful blend of blues & rock jams, stretching out on songs by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix, Rolling Stones, and, well...that should be enough to set up the story. These guys never play the same show twice, and there's always room for some great improv...tunes wander out a little way, and then find their way back home. ALWAYS interesting to watch and hear what happens.

Stay for the night, Eat in the morning

D'OH!
Something I totally forgot to put on our big poster:
OVERNIGHT CAMPING!
If you'd like to stay overnight—because of boozebuzz (STRONGLY encouraged!!!), or because it's a long drive back to wherever you need to be—Green Hill Sportsman's Club has about 80 acres where you can pitch a tent, or otherwise sleep in the wild. There will be some room for smaller RV's. The property—for the most part—is naturally undeveloped, and facilities are minimal—as in: no electricity or water hook-ups. If you can handle that, you're more than welcome to stay.
HERE'S THE BONUS:
For those who choose to stay over on the site we'll be serving up a nice farm—style breakfast.

Wanna see the poster?

This will appear as a pale comparison to the absolutely magnificent print piece being provided by the terrific people at Sir Speedy of Lancaster PA & The H&H Group, but at least you'll be able to have a look at the centerpiece of the beginnings of our promo efforts.

I have a reasonably high-resolution version stashed on my GoogleDocs space.
So go there to see the big goomer.

Great Food & Beverages

We're turning the burners up and building the menu...here's the roll call of the tasty goodies we'll be offering at our little soirée. It's subject to some slight modification & additions as we fine tune it, but it's gonna be some awesome Autumn warm—up grub, no matter what! In addition to what we're serving up, feel free to bring any special food— & drink—stuffs you'd like; some grills will be available, but the number is limited. Bring your own, if you want to.

Why a "Party in the Woods?"

Of course we all love the pets in our lives, and we care about the fates of those pets who end up abandoned, alone, in dire straits. The Humane League of Lancaster County Pennsylvania helps work for all of us and our feelings by providing services needed for our animal friends who can no longer be cared for, who have arrived at the shelter separated from their humans, or who just need to find a new home. The Humane League also provides:
• High—quality pet care for those who meet income qualifications,
• Low—cost spaying and neutering,
• Trap|neuter|return program aimed at humanely reducing the feral cat population,
• Humane euthanasia services.

So, you might be wondering about how the "…& The Artists" part plays a role. Every musician playing has donated their talents, and our artisans who have generously provided items for our auction and have done so because they believe it's the right thing to do. We are enormously proud and thankful for their participation. These men and women are all local, and full of passion about what they do. And let's be honest, they certainly appreciate the opportunity to present their skills to a larger audience, and might hope to connect with you, our patrons, on a visceral level. Beyond our Saturday October 12 2013 benefit party, they would be honored to provide further entertainment and artworks for our patrons who make a connection.

We thank you, the pets thank you, our extraordinary team thanks you, and the Lancaster County community at large will be deeply appreciative of the contributions you have made.

Now, let's have fun!

Cheers from all of us to all of you!
